Richardson Technology Systems Inc. (TSI), in partnership with the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club, is inviting the community to celebrate the sixth annual “Fungatta Race,” on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

The event -- which is free to all -- is the championship regatta and finale of the Richardson Youth Racing League (RYRL) season and will take place at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue, site of the 1996 Olympic Games.

After weeks of training, more than 110 young Georgians will get to show off their new-found skills while racing a variety of boats including, single, double, four-person and dragonboats – carrying up to 20 people.

RYRL teaches canoe and kayak skills and safety to children and teenagers and also helps them develop leadership skills, a life-long love for fitness and nutrition, teamwork, an appreciation for nature and a positive attitude.

Funded by Richardson TSI, a technology system integrator located in Suwanee, RYRL is often the first step in a young athlete’s journey in achieving personal best in both the sport of sprint canoe-kayak and in life.

The Lake Lanier Olympic Venue is located at Clarks Bridge Park, 3105 Clarks Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA. 30506. Races are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and should last until 3:00 p.m.
