Summer Aquatics Offered by Dawson County Parks and Recreation

Published May 22, 2008

Dawson County Parks and Recreation is proud to introduce the addition of two new aquatic activities this summer.

Beginning May 27, 2008, Adult Swim will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Veterans Memorial Park pool, 6 – 8 pm.  Admission is $1 daily.

Additionally, Adult Water Aerobics will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 7 pm, with the first session getting underway on June 2. Cost is $60 per person per session. Register for Session I by May 30. A second session begins July 14. Registration for Session II ends July 7.

“Aquatic fitness classes offer a safe, comfortable and efficient way for people of all ages, sizes and fitness levels to get and stay fit,” states Water Aerobics Instructor Tonya Jones. “Best of all, you burn about 700 calories or more in just a one-hour swim class.”

No swimming skills are needed for water aerobics. According to Jones, this activity works nearly every muscle group in one workout while building lean tissue and burning body fat. “Water aerobics also allows individuals to participate who might otherwise be physically unable to enjoy a traditional exercise environment,” Jones says.

Enroll now, Monday – Friday, in person at Rock Creek Sports Complex or online at www.dawsoncounty.org. Click on Parks & Recreation, then Registration Information. For additional information, please contact Buffie Henson at 706.344.3646 or bhenson@dawsoncounty.org.
