It’s time to lace up and shape up for the 25th annual Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program (KPCRW), a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk through the streets of downtown Atlanta. The deadline to register for only $20 has been extended to Friday, Aug. 31, 2007. After Friday, registration goes up to $25. Officials have also announced a fireworks finale and performance by the Atlanta Drumline in honor of the event’s 25th anniversary.
Designed to be an all-inclusive community event, the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program promotes awareness, workplace camaraderie and physical well-being within the Atlanta corporate community at large. The event, which takes place on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at 7p.m. adjacent to Turner Field in downtown Atlanta, has grown into one of the largest corporate organized fitness programs in the nation. The event is open to everyone regardless of fitness level.
Employees sign up as part of a company team – or individually -- and participate in the eight-week training promotion – ‘Get Active Atlanta’ – at all metro Atlanta Bally Total Fitness locations. Fitness and motivation tips, along with nutrition advice from Kaiser Permanente physicians, are sent out each week via e-letters to team members from race director, U.S. Olympian, author and marathon guru, Jeff Galloway.
“What sets our event apart from others is our comprehensive fitness and training emphasis that helps businesses and their employees find healthy ways to exercise as individuals or as a team no matter what their personal level of fitness,” explains Jeff Galloway who founded the event 25 years ago. “Our weekly training program allows participants– some of whom may have never tackled a fitness challenge like this before - to gradually increase their endurance and distance, incorporate elements such as weights into their workouts and really feel prepared to take on the challenge of walking or running a 5K.”
