Bring Back Your Kayak!

Published Aug 24, 2007

Have you ever driven over a bridge and peered down at the flowing river wondering where it went and what it passed along the way? Are there any great rapids you wish you could see that are just out of site?  What about interesting trees and foliage that grace the river's edge along the way?

If you have a yearning for adventure on Georgia's magnificent rivers and have wondered how you might get started canoeing or kayaking, this is your opportunty.  On September 15, 2007, the Georgia Canoeing Association (GCA) will gather friends to paddle a section of the Chattahoochee River just below Lake Lanier.  There is no charge for this fun trip, but space is limited.

Though there is no cost, there are a few things you need to do in preparation for your river exploration. Bring your own boat or arrange your own rental (see below). Lifejackets must be worn at all times, and no drugs or alcohol will be permitted before or during the trip.  The group will stop at some point during the day, so be sure to bring lunch and water.

Thus far in 2007, the GCA has held nearly 100 Canoeing and Kayak trips on rivers of all levels. Trips cover everything from the black waters of the Okeefenokee to the slow lazy rivers of South Georgia to the extreme white water rivers of suitable for those daring car commercials!

In addition, there are several social gatherings throughout the year. No matter where your interests are, there is a river suitable for you to venture upon.

Boats are available from any of the follow local outfitters:
Up the River Outfitters – 770-614-3322
Go With the Flow – 770-992-3200
The Outside World – 706-265-4500

Call (770) 529-7103 to sign up for the upcoming Canoeing and Kayak trip in September.
