DAWSONVILLE – Dawson County Tax Commissioner Linda Townley is foreclosing on 354.9 acres known as Gold Creek, according to documents obtained by the Gold 104.3 FM.

Northeastern Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Bonnie Oliver is scheduled to hear foreclosure arguments at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the Dawson County Courthouse on Tucker Avenue.

Gold Creek’s owners are $129,001 in arrears on property and inventory taxes dating back to 2006, Dawson County tax records show.

The foreclosure proceedings follow ample effort by Townley to recover back taxes on the property from Gold Creek’s ownership, the tax commissioner told Gold 104.3 FM on Tuesday.

Two thick file folders on Townley’s desk document the county’s continued efforts to recover back taxes on the property.

Townley added that the county did not force Gold Creek owners to close the doors on the resort’s operations late last week.

“That was a personal decision made by the owners,” Townley said.

Gold Creek owners Bob Tablak and Jeff Tablak also are embroiled in a legal fight with the city of Dawsonville related to a water and sewer agreement between the two parties. The Georgia Court of Appeals reversed lower court decisions against Gold Creek and ordered the case to trial for resolve.

The Tablaks have retained a debt relief attorney, according to Townley.

Doors to the 12,000 square-foot clubhouse were locked as of Friday, June 27. A yellow tax notice from the Dawson County Tax Commissioner is on the door. The sign reads: “this property has been seized under levy by the ex-officio sheriff of Dawson County for delinquent taxes.”

Questions regarding the closing of Gold Creek and the future of Gold Creek continue to mount. One fact is certain: the few salaried employees of Gold Creek who had their paychecks direct deposited into their personal bank accounts received their pay on Wednesday before the club closed on June 27, according to documents obtained by Gold 104.3 FM.

Employees who did not have their checks direct deposited into their personal accounts did not receive paychecks for their final three weeks of work before the club closed, the documents show.

Homeowners in the resort golf community are raising money to help those workers who were left financially out in the cold when the doors closed, Gold 104.3 FM has learned.

Gold Creek was founded in 1995 as an 18-hole semi-private golf club and later named by the Georgia Golf Association as the “Best Golf Course in North Georgia.”

The resort plays host to many community functions including the weekly Dawson County Rotary Club meeting and the monthly Dawson County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.

It’s also the home golf course for the Dawson County Tigers and Lady Tigers during high school golf season.
