Golfers constantly torque their bodies throughout their game as they twist for a drive, lean for a ball or squat to measure out a putt. Because of the repetition required for 18 holes, the result can be muscles that are tired, overworked and begin to show signs of wear and imbalance.
Creating an imbalance in the body can lead to a myriad of health issues over time, including knee, hip and back pain, issues that can hurt your golf game and make what was once a favorite past time unbearable. To battle these issues, both weekend warriors and pro golfers are turning to Pilates for relief.
Many movements in golf begin in the center or core of the body and Pilates is a set of exercises designed to strengthen this area as well as increase range of motion. Pilates also helps to strengthen the back, create symmetry in the body and improve balance. Through regular practice of Pilates, golfers will find that they can hit the ball further and straighter, while reducing the risk of injury and back pain. Even the short game can be improved with increased stability and balance found with Pilates exercises.
