Published May 9, 2007

More than 120 soccer teams from around Atlanta and the Southeast will converge on the Polo Fields in Forsyth County the weekend of May 12-13, 2007, for the 2nd annual Xtreme Adidas Cup, hosted by Atlanta Soccer Academy (ASA), based in Forsyth County.

Teams from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina will be hosted by ASA during the annual event, and more than 1,800 athletes will show off their best soccer skills as they compete for the coveted Adidas Cup again this year. Participating Atlanta players will come from Hall, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee, Cobb and North Fulton counties.  Athletes will compete at three venues, including Polo Fields, South Forsyth Middle School and Midway Park, all in Forsyth County. Sponsors of the Xtreme Adidas Cup include adidas, Precision Concrete, United BMW, Brian Cork Human Capital, Soccer Atlanta, CummingHome.com and Totally Soccer.

The tournament is designed for U8 through U16 recreational teams and U8 through U12 academy teams. Athletes will be accompanied by their families, and ASA officials expect more than 4,000 players, spectators and tournament staff during the two-day event, which takes place over Mother’s Day weekend.

Besides being treated to some ‘top notch’ soccer, visitors will also find well-stocked concession stands selling Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, Wendy’s burgers, hot dogs, ice cold drinks, snacks and candy. Additional food vendors, including Moe’s (1175 Buford Hwy., Cumming) and Sogno Gelato will be available at Polo, along with several retail vendors, including Digi Pic Photos, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Totally Soccer, Safety4Kids, Simply Sweets4You, Lady Bug Designs and others. The Jumpster Dude from Jumpsters family entertainment center in South Forsyth County will be on-hand to entertain young children, and carnations will be available for purchase on Sunday for Mother’s Day.

Each team will receive goody bags containing donated items from adidas, ASA, Chick-Fil-A, Totally Soccer, My Michelle, Lavendar, CummingHome.com, Publix, State Farm/Harry Hudson, SafetyNet4Kids, The Pet Basket, Jumpsters and more.

Many great items will be raffled off during the tournaments, with tickets being sold on Saturday and winners announced Sunday morning. Raffle items include promotional goods from 104.7 The Fish, gift card from Lavender, $50 gift card from My Michelle, $25 gift card from Home Depot, $25 gift card from Dick’s Sporting Goods, $25 gift card from Totally Soccer, summer camp sponsorship from Safety4kids, sports duffle and rolling sports cooler from Zebra Products -- courtesy of Peggy Messawer, Coca Cola promotional items, Atkins Park $25 dinner coupon, $25 gift card from Publix and a gift basket from The Pet Basket.

The Xtreme Adidas Cup received rave reviews after its debut year in 2006, and one visiting parent shared the following with ASA tournament organizers: "The Xtreme Adidas Cup was very well run and on time! Not many tournaments can claim that. The trophies were good quality. There was ample parking and plenty of space for fans to watch and for the teams to warm up. Trash cans got emptied on a regular basis and bathrooms were stocked and clean when needed. Concession stand volunteers were friendly. Fields were in great shape and the refs did a great job.”

All are welcome to attend this youth sporting event.  For more information on the Xtreme Adidas Cup Tournament, please visit www.asaxtreme.com. To learn more about Atlanta Soccer Academy, visit www.atlsoccer.com.
