Dawson County has really grown over the last 13 years we have lived in the county. After going to the rezoning meeting Tuesday 8/21, I have realized that the sign coming into Dawson County should read: “Commercial Developers Welcome, Residential Homeowners Not”. The commissioners on the rezoning committee change rules to benefit themselves. I’m sure they would not allow a retail center to be put up in their front yard. They are allowing the about 103 acres of land between Dawson Forest Rd, Lumpkin Campground Rd, Whitmire Rd. and Gordon Moss Rd. be rezoned for Commercial Highway Retail. When did those roads become highways?? What are the zoning accordance about turning buildings around to have the backs of them face these so called highways?
So now we have to look at the backend of the retail stores, We have asked if the developer can flip the plan so we look at the parking lot and store fronts. We were informed that the renters for the stores wanted the fronts to face 400. I drive 400 everyday to work and I do not take in the scenery. Who cares what the cars driving 400 look at. We live on Lumpkin Campground and have to look at the backs of them.
This is not fair at all! Homeowners of Dawson County beware!! You, too, may have a retail shopping center in your yards. The commissioners just don’t care about the little people.

You are so right. The Planning Commission voted to recommend a sports complex directly behind homes in the Meadows, Savannah Trace and Gates of Etowah subdivisions. Absolutely no consideration of homeowners or their property values. Only the money they think it will bring. Future home buyers beware. Dawson County does not treat their residents well.
