Insurance Commissioner John W. Oxendine said tornadoes and powerful thunderstorms Wednesday evening caused an estimated $25 million in insured losses in Georgia.

“I spent some time surveying damage and talking to residents in Jasper, Putnam, and Hancock Counties today,” Oxendine said. “I believe claims will easily reach $25 million. Actual losses are much higher when you consider things like infrastructure damage and uninsured losses.”

Oxendine reminds Georgians that they can call his Consumer Services Division at 404-656-2070 or, outside the Metro area, 1-800-656-2298, if they have questions about a claim or are experiencing difficulty reaching their insurance company. Phone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
