On Saturday, April 24, 2010, Keep Dawson County Beautiful adds a second event to the Great American Clean Up by hosting an electronics recycling day at the Dawsonville Wal-Mart shopping center from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Dawson County residents may bring personal computers, printers, monitors, stereo equipment, radios, telephones, circuit boards, fax machines and many other electronic items.    A complete list of acceptable items can be found atwww.dawsoncounty.org

.

“Look throughout your home,” encourages KDCB Executive Director Cathy Brooks. “We’ve all got outdated computers, monitors, printers, radios or VCRs we no longer use. This is the perfect opportunity to serve the community beginning in our own homes,” Brooks said.

This is the second year Keep Dawson County Beautiful has hosted an electronics recycling event.  “Last year we collected more than 7,500 pounds of metal, plastic and glass components,” said Keep Dawson County Beautiful Chairman Karen Armstrong.

“Atlanta Recycling also disposed of 45 PCs, eight TVs and 73 monitors. We hope to beat last year's record and see less in our landfill,” Armstrong said.

A $5.00 donation per car or truckload to benefit Keep Dawson County Beautiful is requested.  A $10 removal fee applies for televisions only and no console TVs will be accepted. Volunteers will be on-site to unload vehicles.

The Great American Cleanup™, the nation’s largest community improvement program is taking place through May 31.  Nationwide, close to three million volunteers will campaign for a cleaner, greener America as part of the 2010 Great American Cleanup by participating in 30,000 community improvement activities and educational workshops happening in over 17,000 communities nationwide.

The Great American Cleanup is an annual event started in 1999 by Keep America Beautiful. Each year Georgians have worked to improve their communities by picking up litter in parks and roadways, planting trees and flowers to beautify public spaces, painting over graffiti, repairing local homes and businesses, and holding recycling drives and workshops.

“Keep Dawson County Beautiful embraces the vision that each of us holds an obligation to preserve and protect our environment,” Brooks said.  “Through our everyday choices and actions, we collectively have a huge impact on our world. It's really a simple concept, but one with far reaching effects.  Our goal for Dawson County is to become a community of best practice where individuals take personal responsibility for improving our environment.”

Dawson County kicks off the 2010 Great American Clean Up with a District Three clean up on Saturday, April 17, 2010.
