The Dawson County Marshal’s office and Keep Dawson County Beautiful encourage everyone to participate in the first collaborative district-wide community clean up event Saturday, May 16, 2009.
Beginning with District One, Dawson County’s inaugural community clean up event will begin at 8am at Juno Baptist Church. Litter pick-up routes and supplies will be distributed to volunteer groups. Lunch will be furnished midday to volunteers courtesy of Jay Walker and Kroger of Dawsonville.
In an effort to promote the general cleaning and beautification of Dawson County, KDCB and the Dawson County Marshal’s office have partnered to hold at least two district-wide community clean ups each year. “We will begin with District One now and will have a District Two clean up in the fall,” said KDCB Executive Director Cathy Brooks. “Next year we will work on Districts Three and Four,” she continued. “The aim of this cooperation is to protect the quality of our environment as well as to enhance the natural beauty of Dawson County,” said Chief Marshal Jeff Johnson.
“We have launched the Dawson County community project in conjunction with the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup,” said Brooks. “Last year Dawson County volunteers collected over 670 pounds of litter during the Great American Clean Up,” she said.
On April 16, 2009 the Dawson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to proclaim May 16, 2009 as the first Dawson County Community Clean Up day to promote environmental consciousness including litter prevention and recycling.
To participate in the District One community clean-up, individuals and groups may register by calling Cathy Brooks at 706-344-3501 x 255 or email cbrooks@dawsoncounty.org.
