Roy D. Coleman

Roy D. Coleman, 78, of Dawsonville died Wednesday April 16, 2008 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born in Auburn, Maine, Mr. Coleman had lived in Dawson County for the past 25 years having moved from Dunwoody. He worked over 30 years in the sales of electrical controls and computers retiring in 1998. April 3, 2008 was proclaimed The Roy Coleman Day in Dawson County in honor of his dedicated service to the many contributions he made to this community. He currently served as president of the Dawson County Kiwanis Club and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents, Roy D., Sr. and Mildred Coleman and a sister, Shirley Wade.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Wilma Coleman, Dawsonville; children, Donna and Steve Ames, White, GA, Patti Owens, Lawrenceville, Susan and Tim Floyd, California, Maryland, Sandra and Andy Manley, Fairfax, VA, Roy and Teresa Coleman, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Joshua Floyd, Melissa Owens, Kaitlyn Manley, Genevieve Manley, Taylor Manley, Eric Weaver, Shelbie Thomas, Allyson Hage, Curtis Ames and four great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday April 19, 2008 at 11 o’clock at the Church of the Apostles. Rev. Russell Burchard will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Church of the Apostles, P. O. Box 1077, Dawsonville, GA 30534 or the Friends of the Library, c/o the Dawson County Library, 342 Allen Street, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

I will miss him dearly. One of the finest men I have known. Always a kind word. Always the diplomat. Always a giver to his community. He did so much good for Dawson County, but most of it was behind the scenes. He just did what was needed simply because it was the right thing to do. A wonderful human being!
