January 5, 1921 – September 12, 2008

John R. Sherwood, 87, of Dawsonville died Friday September 12, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born in Creston, Iowa, he lived most of his life in Dawson County.  Mr. Sherwood graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering and was employed with Swift & Co. for 18 years after which he worked for ConFoods until his retirement.  A  U. S. Army Air Corp veteran of WW II, he served in the Pacific Theater.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace G. Sherwood.

Surviving are his children, Barbara and Alva Almand, St. Louis, MO, Patricia and Morris Pruett, Dawsonville, Mike and Patsy Sherwood, Dahlonega, Gloria and Marshall Gazaway, Gainesville, eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday September 15, 2008 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. David Smith and Rev. Tommy Panter will officiate.  Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends after 6 pm Saturday and all day Sunday at the funeral home.
