James D. Phillips, 80, of Dawsonville died Monday June 30, 2008 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of illness.

Born in Aragon, Georgia and coming from Clarkston Mr. Phillips has been a resident of the Athens Boat Club in Dawsonville for twenty-five years. He owned and operated “Phillips Auto Parts” a chain of retail auto parts stores for twenty five years. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was an active member of the Mt. Paran Church of God and also attended Kilough Church by the Lake.

Surviving are his wife, Ila Mae Phillips of Dawsonville; daughter and son in law, Shelia and Danny Drake of Dawsonville; brothers, Bobby Joe Phillips of Rockmart and Ross Phillips of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Brandon Akins, Darren Drake, Dustin Drake and Deanne Drake. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Graveside services for Mr. Phillips will be held Thursday July 3, 2008 at 10:00am at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, Georgia. Dr. Jeff Burrell will officiate.
