Henry Taylor

Henry Taylor, 92, of Dawsonville died Sunday June 8, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health.

A lifelong resident of the Liberty Community in Dawson County, Mr. Taylor had been a member of Liberty Baptist Church since 1928 and was also a member of Chestatee Lodge #102, F & AM.  On April 21, 1935 he married Lillian Slaton and they were pioneers in the poultry business in Dawson County.  Mr. Taylor served Dawson County in the Georgia House of Representatives for two terms from 1959 until 1962.  After serving in the legislature, he became part owner and manager of Shuman Supply Company in Gainesville from 1962 until 1974 when the business was sold and he retired.  Henry was the youngest and last surviving child of eleven children of Jeff and Mary Cantrell Taylor.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Slaton Taylor; parents, Jeff and Mary Taylor; son, Jimmy Taylor; granddaughter, Anita Taylor; sisters and brothers in law, Nora and J. C. Bennett, Onie and Anderson Whidby, Bertie and Joe Carruth, Mamie Belle and Hoke Parks; brothers and sisters in law, Egbert and Minnie Taylor, Ed and Lila Taylor, Ray and Corine Taylor; father in law and mother in law, Milt and Minnie Slaton; brother in law and sister in law, J. W. and Reba Slaton; sisters in law, Geraldine Conner, Ruby Slaton, and three siblings who died in infancy.

Surviving are his daughter and son in law, Peggy and Jere Hulsey, Dawsonville; daughter in law, Martha R. Taylor, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Clint Hulsey, Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Melissa and Greg Sheriff, Dawsonville; great granddaughter, Amanda Sheriff, Dawsonville; sister in law and brother in law, Betty and Bob Waldrop, Gainesville; nieces, Betty Gober, Carrie Whidby, Mary Jo Elrod, Ila Wood, Winnie Livingston, Marjorie Castleberry, Laura Warbington, Jane Williams, Barbara Kerby; nephews, Clyde Bennett, Bill Taylor, Harold Taylor, Joe Carruth, Jr., Bob Taylor, Everett Parks, Boyd Parks.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 11, 2008 at 10 o’clock at Liberty Baptist Church.  Rev. Ruel Martin will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Masonic Brethren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
