Charles C. Smith, Jr., 84, of Dawsonville died Wednesday May 7, 2008 at the North Fulton Regional Hospital.
A native of Gainesville, Florida, Mr. Smith had lived in Dawson County for the past 27 years having moved from Dunwoody. For many years he worked as a real estate broker after which he served as an appraiser for the Fulton County Board of Tax Assessors where he retired in 1995 after 20 years of service. Mr. Smith was a charter member of the Dawsonville Baptist Church, a member of the Dawsonville Lion’s Club, a U. S. Navy Veteran of WW II and was an early leader in the Dawson County Republican Party. He was a loving husband and devoted father who loved travel to the beach and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Smith, Dawsonville; sons and daughters in law, Brad and Robin Smith, Louisville, TN, Clint Smith, Dawsonville, Mitch Smith, Atlanta, Jeff and Cindy Smith, Alpharetta; grandchildren, Jane Smith, Wesley Smith, Garrett Smith, Tatum Smith.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 10, 2008 at 2 o’clock at the Dawsonville Baptist Church with the remains placed in state at 1 o’clock. Dr. Randy Smith and Rev. Ray Rhodes will officiate. Interment services will be held Monday May 12, 2008 at 11 o’clock at Georgia National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.
