Betty Long, 63, of Dawsonville died Thursday August 21, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness.

Born in Lumpkin County, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. Mrs. Long retired from the Dawson County School system after over thirty years of service. She held many positions in the school system but for the past several years she was the secretary to the High School counselor. She was a member of Juno Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Clyde and Irene Fortner, sister, Sue Ravan and a brother, Edward Fortner.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Clayton Long, Dawsonville; children, Greg Long, Dawsonville, Kimberly and Joe Tounzen, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Shane and Amy Long, Dawsonville, Holly and Keith Burt, Dawsonville; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jimmy Hamby, Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Wilburn and Josalin Fortner, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Jessica Long, Cody Long, Travis Long, Juli Long, Lillian Long and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday August 24, 2008 at 2 o’clock at Juno Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Tim Biddy and Rev. Leonard W. Ridings will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 5 pm Friday and all day Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Juno Baptist Church, 3185 Elliott Family Parkway, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

I wanted to send my deepest sympathies to Mrs Longs family. She was a great lady and she will be dearly missed. God bless you all. She is now smiling upon you from heaven.
