The Dawson County Republican Party has endorsed Perry McGuire in the Georgia Court of Appeals race. Members voted to endorse him at the monthly meeting on September 16, 2008.

“Perry McGuire is the most qualified in the field of candidates,” Dawson County Republican Party Chairman Clint Smith said. “His legal, legislative, corporate, and community experience is outstanding. His judicial philosophy and temperament matches that of the Dawson County Republican Party membership. He believes that judges should interpret the law not create the law.

As a former State Senator, Perry McGuire understands that the legislature and not the judicial branch should create the law.

Chairman Clint Smith, a former legislator, served in the General Assembly with Perry McGuire. “I know from working with him that Perry McGuire is a man of character with true conservative principles, dedication to service, and a love for the state of Georgia.”

Perry McGuire served as a Republican in the State Senate from 1993 through 1996. He represented Carroll and Douglas Counties. He was the Chick-fil-A corporate attorney (1996-2004) and is a practicing attorney with the firm of Taylor, Busch, Slipakoff and Duma.

The Georgia Court of Appeals handles the vast majority of important cases that come from the lower courts. Most of those cases are decided by the Court of Appeals and not the Supreme Court. It is very important that the state of Georgia has a qualified judge to fill this open seat – someone with a solid background and a fair-minded, rule-of-law judge.
