Bearden Announces Bid for Re-election in November

Published Mar 24, 2008

Dawson County Coroner, Ted Bearden, has announced his intention to seek re-election in the November general election.

“I appreciate all the support the community has given me the past eight years and am humbled by the interest in seeing me continue to serve.”

“The coroner’s office must operate seven days and week, 365 days a year, and having the two best deputies I could possibly have, Lanier Swafford and Billy Thurmond, there is never a time the county is not adequately served.   Since there is no hospital in the county, having a facility and all the supplies necessary to serve as a county morgue and the vehicles to handle transportation allows me to serve the county at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers.

“My relationship with the county commissioners and administrators has been wonderful.  Having served in the coroner’s office since 1991, we have developed a progressive working relationship with the Dawson County E.M.S., the Sheriff’s department, the District Attorney’s office, Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol, G.B.I., and the state medical examiner’s office. It takes all of us working together to make this successful.”

“This year I am serving as President of the Georgia Coroner's Association and am grateful for the confidence the coroners’ across the state placed in me.  The coroner’s office comes in contact with people during the most difficult times in their lives.  I am so thankful for the ability to help them through those times while at the same time doing what the law requires.”
