Robbie Hughey Named Dawson County Emergency Services Assistant Chief

Dawson County Emergency Services Chief Lanier Swafford has named Robbie Hughey Assistant Chief. Hughey was selected among 10 internal applicants to fill the position according to Chief Swafford.

Hughey brings a wealth of experience to the position having served over 15 years in other parts of Georgia including Peachtree City, Clayton County and Rural Metro. In 2005, he was named Paramedic of the Year in DeKalb County.

Assistant Chief Hughey holds affiliated degrees from the University of Maryland, Baltimore; University of Arizona; and Johns Hopkins University. He is currently completing a Fire Management degree at Georgia Perimeter College.

Hughey is certified as NPQ Firefighter II and Paramedic and has extensive HazMat experience. “Hughey brings specialized training to the table that is a great benefit to us,” stated Chief Swafford. “He has been a good contributor to the service and we look forward to the projects he will be doing.”

The new role, commented Hughey, is a big challenge and one he looks forward to accepting. Hughey notes, “I am very excited to work with this team to provide further excellence in our service, care, and training.”

Robbie and his wife Danielle currently live in Forsyth County.
