Hall County sheriff’s deputies have charged a 55-year-old Flowery Branch woman with theft by taking a motor vehicle and reckless conduct related to a dispute over vehicle repairs, sheriff’s authorities said.
Hall County authorities allege that Cathy Parks fired a small caliber handgun five times into the air during a dispute over the repair, or alleged lack of repair to her vehicle.
The incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Thursday as Hall County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of gunfire at 3532 Carter Road, in south Hall, Strickland said.
Allegedly, Parks had left that location in her vehicle that had just been repaired earlier. She didn’t make it far before her vehicle broke down, authorities said.
Allegedly, Parks returned to the place her vehicle was repaired, fired the small caliber handgun five times into the air and left the scene in a pickup truck that authorities say didn’t belong to her.
While en route to the call, deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of the truck that had reportedly left the area of the call. The truck was on Bristol Industrial Parkway, authorities said.
Deputies stopped the truck and took Parks into custody, authorities said.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that Parks had been in a dispute over a car repair and fired a small caliber handgun into the air approximately five times and then left in a truck that did not belong to her,” sheriff’s Major Jeff Strickland said. “Upon her arrest deputies recovered the stolen truck and a small caliber handgun.”
Parks was taken to the Hall County Detention Center, charged with alleged reckless conduct and alleged theft by taking a motor vehicle. Her bail has been set at $6,000 bond.
No one was injured during the incident, Strickland said.
The incident remains under investigation by Hall County sheriff’s authorities.
