A wind advisory is in effect from 8 pm this evening till 8 pm EDT Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Winds associated with tropical storm Katrina will be increasing across North and Central Georgia later tonight. As Katrina moves through Mississippi into Northwest Alabama overnight, residents of North and Central Georgia can expect winds of at least 25 mph, with higher gusts to near 40 mph in some of the spiral bands associated with the storm. The Northeast Georgia Mountains could experience somewhat higher wind speeds.

A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 25 to 39 mph or wind gusts of at least 39 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists are advised to use extra caution.
