The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a wind advisory, which is in effect until 7 pm this evening, Wed., 1/25/06.
A dry cold front will move across the area today with strong low level winds associated. Winds across the area south of the mountains will range 15 to 25 mph range today with gusts up to 35 mph.
A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph for 1 hour or longer, or wind gusts greater than 35 mph, are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
North Georgia received moderate to heavy rainfall amounts on Monday leaving soils fairly wet across the region. This makes the possibility that the strong winds could blow over some large trees more likely. Motorists are urged to be alert for large branches or even whole trees to be laying across roadways. Falling trees and branches could result in downed power lines in some areas. Never touch or try to move any power lines laying on the ground. Boaters on area lakes should exercise caution.
