AccuWeather.com reports the clash of air masses along a stalled front will spark another round of severe storms across the Deep South today.
Cold air behind the stalled front will run headlong into the warm air lingering over the South, sparking the latest round of severe thunderstorms and tornados today. The strongest storms will be concentrated along the Gulf coast from southeastern Louisiana to the western end of the Florida panhandle and north into Tennessee this afternoon. By this evening, the storms will shift east into Georgia and the southern Appalachians.
The AccuWeather.com Severe Weather Center lists the storm-related advisories currently in effect. Residents should monitor weather radios or local broadcasts for alerts on pending strong storms or tornados.
AccuWeather.com forecasters are monitoring the potential development of a weekend storm that could develop along the East Coast. Depending on the track of the storm, much needed rain could fall on drought-stricken areas of the Southeast.
Temperatures across the South into the weekend will remain above normal for early January, with cooler air pushing into the region on Sunday.
