Katrina Brings Flood Watch to Georgia

Published Aug 29, 2005
(Updated Dec 26, 2006)

A flood watch will be in effect from 2 p.m. edt this afternoon to Tuesday Afternoon.

The NWS in Peachtree City has issued a flood watch for East Central Georgia, West Central Georgia, Central Georgia, North Central Georgia, Northwest Georgia, Northeast Georgia and Southeast Georgia. Hurricane Katrina was headed north toward Southeast Louisiana this morning and is a very large, Category 4 hurricane. Tropical moisture associated with Katrina will increase over Georgia today. Rain bands, containing locally heavy rain and thunderstorms should develop over Georgia today and continue through tonight.

A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding, especially along larger streams and rivers. If you are in the watch area, check your preparedness requirements, especially if you have interests along area rivers. Keep informed and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a flood warning is issued.
