AccuWeather.com reports a new storm system that will intensify over the Midwest on Thursday will spark another outbreak of severe thunderstorms across the South.
The cold front that led to two days of deadly tornadoes across the Plains and the South has moved into the East. Showers and thunderstorms will develop today along the Gulf Coast as the cold front stalls; however, the storms are not expected to become severe. The storms Thursday will pack a wallop.
On Thursday, the cold air behind the front will slice into the warm air lingering over the Southeast, sparking the next round of severe storms.
Severe thunderstorms and the potential for more rare January tornadoes will develop late on Thursday from southeastern Louisiana to eastern Tennessee and western Georgia. One person was killed Tuesday when a tornado touched down near Appleton, Ark. On Monday night, two people were killed and at least seven injured when three dozen tornadoes ripped through the Mississippi Valley and the Midwest.
Meanwhile, a shift in the jet stream could spark a storm in the Gulf of Mexico that potentially could develop into an East Coast storm on Sunday and Monday. The combination of the storm and colder air could result in snow in areas that enjoyed spring-like temperatures over the past two days.
