AccuWeather.com, the World’s Weather Authority®, announced today that it has launched new weather applications designed especially for users of Twitter and Tumblr social networking and micro-blogging services. These are the first of their kind offered directly by a major weather forecasting company.
"Twitter and Tumblr and others like them have become increasingly important ways for people to keep in touch with others. We also believe it can be an important way to keep on top of your AccuWeather.com forecast," Jim Candor, Senior Vice President of New Media for AccuWeather.com said. "We’re very pleased to be the first major weather forecasting company to address the needs of this audience. In fact, there was such a desire for our service that many users found our pre-release versions on their own and began using them and blogging about them prior to launch.”
The initial launch of the Twitter and Tumblr applications provide regular updates for more than 50 U.S. and global locations, delivered to users via Twitter updates (tweets) or Tumblelogs. Twitter updates will include 24-hour forecasts (Today/Tonight in the morning and Tonight/Tomorrow in the afternoon) with sky conditions and high and low temperatures. Tumblr updates will offer the same information with the addition of weather icons, short-text descriptions, and links to AccuWeather.com for more details.
