In addition to a location and name change, Julia Anderson has added new classes and times for private and semi-private pilates sessions...
In September 2007, Julia Anderson opened Hard-Core Fitness – providing Pilates based fitness to the Dawsonville area. She started offering classes at a local Taekwondo studio (Starr’s TKD Plus) when Taekwondo classes were not in session. The small business venture grew slowly, but soon the need for additional classes and private session availability forced her to look for a different venue. While she looked, a local church – Christ Church Fellowship – allowed her to continue teaching her classes in various open areas of the church. Finally, in March of 2008, her new studio was ready and she was able to move in to the business’s permanent home – 6002 Hwy 53 East, Suite 130, Dawsonville. “I’m so in love with my studio. I decorated it with my clients in mind – soothing colors, straight lines, natural light.” Julia describes, “But mostly I love having my own place where I can meet clients as their schedule directs.” But the location wasn’t the only thing that changed.
With the move, Julia decided to change several things about the business. First and foremost was the name. Hard-Core Fitness became The Pilates Point. “When I started thinking of owning my own business, I wasn’t sure if Dawsonville was ready for Pilates,” Julia explains, “So I used the name ‘Hard-Core Fitness’ as kind of a back-up plan. If Pilates didn’t take off, I could keep the name and just teach some other type of fitness.” However, Pilates was what she loved and that love shown through enough that her clientele slowly grew and when she made the leap to having her own studio location – she wanted to change the name to better reflect the focus. So The Pilates Point was born.
In addition to a location and name change, Julia added new classes to the group schedule – including a class at a local neighborhood’s club house, and added additional time slots for private or semi-private sessions. Soon she hopes to add either Yoga or Tai Chi to the studio as well. “I think these three formats go hand in hand. They are really just opposite sides of the same coin, with a focus on breath and centering and of course, overall wellness. But Pilates is what I love, so that is what I teach.” She laughs, “As soon as I find someone certified in Yoga or Tai Chi, and that person is in love with what they teach...I look forward to adding that to my schedule. Hopefully it will be soon.”
