Shakespeare Comes to Dawsonville

Published Jul 30, 2008

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!  The Dawson County Arts Council decrees that no one should miss its next presentation, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged” performed by the Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern.

The Tavern describes the play as an irreverent, hilarious, high-speed romp through all 37 of the Bard’s plays (and 154 sonnets) in two hour!  Othello goes Hip-Hop, Titus Andronicus a cooking show, and all the Histories are performed as a football game.  All of this performed by THREE ACTORS.”  If your struggles with your high school literature class, you’ll split your sides with this performance.

The Atlanta Shakespeare Company began in 1984 at Manuel’s Tavern in Atlanta.  Ultimately, it attracted national attention with articles in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and coverage by CNN and CBS.  The Company has used a casual atmosphere to connect to the real worked.

The Shakespeare Tavern opened in 1990, and it has produced over 73 plays with 1600 performances.  In 1995, ASC was honored to be the first American company to perform on the stage of Shakespeare’s Globe in London, England.

The ASC will perform September 9, 2008, at Lakeview Center.  Doors open at 7PM for a Cash Bar, coffee and cookies.  Tickets are $30.00, and may be purchased at Bowen Center for the Arts on Highway 9 N or by calling 706-216-2787.
