Ben and Mary Joe Overstreet of Dawsonville have contributed $300 to Dawson County 4-H as a result of winning first place in the a Non-Irrigated division and the A No Till/Strip Till Non-Irrigated division of the 2007 National Corn Growers’ Association’s (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest in Georgia.  The contribution was provided by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., as a reward for winning the contest.  Ben won with Pioneer® brand hybrid 31G65 which yielded 208.57 bushels per acre, and Mary Joe won with Pioneer® brand hybrid 33M53 which yielded 207.34 bushels per acre.   

The Overstreets earned two of the 344 state titles won by growers planting Pioneer hybrids.  Growers planting Pioneer hybrids dominated the contest and won 65.7 percent of all awards presented. 

The NCGA Corn Yield Contest is an annual competition among corn producers with the goal of producing the highest yields.  In the contest, growers compete within a broad range of corn production classes, including non-irrigated, no-till/strip-till non-irrigated, no-till/strip-till irrigated, ridge-till non-irrigated, ridge-till irrigated and irrigated classes.
