Dawsonville Hosts Third Annual Veterans Day Celebration

The Veterans Day National Committee approved Dawsonville as a 2007 Veterans Day Regional Site, and Atlanta and Dawsonville are the only two Regional Sites in Georgia to receive this honor.  This designation makes the 2007 Veterans Day Parade and Celebration even more special for Dawsonville and its veteran heroes...

The Veterans Affairs of Dawson County, Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, Dawsonville and Dawson County Officials will hold the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Celebration, November 11, in downtown Dawsonville. The Veterans Day National Committee approved Dawsonville as a 2007 Veterans Day Regional Site. Atlanta and Dawsonville are the only two Regional Sites in Georgia to receive this honor.

The parade line-up will begin at the Dawson County Library at 2 p.m. and the parade will begin at 3 p.m.  WWII Veteran, Raymond Parks, Purple Heart Recipient of Iraqi Freedom, John Kenney, and E-3, Kyle Tate, active military will be the Grand Marshals.

Formal ceremonies will be held at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex at 4 p.m.  Captain Larry Freeland will be our Master of Ceremony.  Keynote speakers include Christine O. Hill, Department of Veterans Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional & Legislative Affairs and retired U.S. Marine Colonel, Jim Chapin.

Veterans and active military personnel from all wars and all branches will be honored, as well as local Dawson County Law Enforcement, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.

The public is invited to attend this event and show support for our Veterans.
