Dawson, Forsyth, Lumpkin Counties to Organize Tribute to Cpl. Matt Phillips

Published Jul 23, 2008

ATTENTION:
Dawson, Forsyth and Lumpkin Counties

Start spreading the word to organize a
tribute to CPL Matt Phillips
for his service to our country

United States Army Corporal Matthew Britten Phillips, age 27, of Cumming, GA, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 while bravely and proudly serving his country at a forward operating base in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. Cpl. Phillips was one of nine soldiers to die that day; just days before his unit was scheduled to leave the base.
Matt will be laid to rest at Coal Mountain Church cemetery on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Coal Mountain Church on Hwy. 9 in Cumming.

We would like to see the community come out this week and begin putting out flags, banners, and putting flags at half-staff -- any way you can think of to honor Matt for his service.

On Saturday, we will begin lining Hwy. 9 from Ingram’s Funeral Home no later than 12:25 p.m. at Ingram's, as they will be leaving the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. with SPC Phillips' body to go the church.

We want to see every space filled with people, on both sides of the road holding flags, displaying any form of patriotism.
