November 11 marks the Third Annual Veterans Day Celebration, and all in the Dawson County community are invited to join officials in honoring our Veterans, Active Military, Law Enforcement and Homeland Security personnel.
Veterans are encouraged to attend and participate in the parade and formal ceremonies. Steve Holder, City Planning Director, will deliver the welcome. Master of Ceremonies is Captain Larry Freeland. Grand Marshalls will be Raymond Parks, WWII Veteran and racing legend, Specialist E. Kyle Tate, home on leave from Afghanistan, and Purple Heart recipient, John Kenney.
The keynote speaker is retired Colonel Jim Chapin and retired Lt. Colonel Christine O. Hill, representative from the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC.
The Dawson County High School band will play, along with bagpiper, Dan Titus. The day's activities will also include an 'Unwavering Line,' re-enactors from every war/conflict, along with a special presentation from Chamber of Commerce president, Linda Williams, for Veteran of the Year.
Dawsonville was approved by the Veterans Day National Committee of Washington, DC as a 2007 Veterans Day Regional Site. This is an honor, as only 27 counties in the nation hold this honored title. Georgia has two sites: Atlanta and Dawsonville.
All are encouraged to come out and celebrate the nation's 54th Annual Veterans Day. Veterans are invited to please call Pam at the Dawson County Chamber at (706) 265-6278 to participate in the parade.
