Riverview Middle Students to Represent School in Oratorical Contest

Published Mar 13, 2008

This year Riverview¹s 8th grade students participated in the Optimist Club¹s annual Oratorical Contest for the second time. The oratorical contest is an education enhancement opportunity that Optimist International has provided since 1928. More than $159,000 is awarded annually in scholarships to youth with nearly 2,000 clubs participating in this program each year.

"Why Me. Why Not?" was this year's official topic. Orations were to be at least four minutes but not over five minutes in length. Each class chose a girl and boy representative to compete at the school level.

Emily Stowers and Cody Hall were chosen to represent Riverview at the district competition on March 29, 2008 at Jasper Middle School. Jake Baudin and Lyric Baty placed second, and Coleman Lowenthal and Sarahid Geuavra placed third.
