If you are looking for good value in a domestic Cabernet Sauvignon, you might look toward the Northwest, to the Columbia River Valley, and the Columbia Crest Winery, located in Paterson, Washington. The Columbia Valley has developed into a premier growing region, especially for the Bordeaux grapes of Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2005 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon is one of these real value wines from Washington State. It is a good deep red color with aromas of berries and cherries. The wine is well structured with the taste of currants, cherries and a hint of chocolate. It finishes with mild tannins which linger on with the mild cocoa flavor. An excellent choice for almost any grilled meat. We enjoyed a bottle the other night with some barbecued ribs done on the grill with a mild sauce. I love grilling and drinking red wine, especially Cabernet Sauvignon! I score this one an 88.

We will feature the 2005 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, as our wine of the month for May.
