Norm's Tasting Notes: 2005 Maryhill Winemakers Blend Red Wine

It is always good to see the experts agree with you! About a year ago, I tasted the 2005 Maryhill Winemakers Blend Red Wine from the Columbia Valley in Washington State. I was very impressed and have recommended this wine ever since to customers who enjoy a blended wine or as some would say a Claret or Meritage. These wines have grown in popularity in the last few years and are very much in the style of red Bordeaux wine from France.

The Wine Enthusiast just published their Top 100 Best Buys of 2007 and this one came in at #53 with a score of 88. This is a good solid bottle of wine which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. It has the aroma of chocolate and cherries, with big fruit flavors of cherry, currant and red berries. The finish is clean and lingering with mild but substantial tannins. It will pair well with most grilled meats and I would suggest it as a substitute for Chianti with your veal and pasta dishes.

I love Bordeaux wines, glad to see this kind of wine from the U.S.! Good article.
