There is a cool fall breeze in the air, and we are once again in search of good Cabernet Sauvignon to compliment our dinner from the grill. I recently tasted the 2005 Grayson Cellars Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, and found it to be delightful!
Paso Robles is located in central California about ten miles inland, and just north of San Luis Obispo. It is a warmer climate than the Napa Valley, but it does get cooling breezes at night from the Pacific Ocean. Cabernet Sauvignon grown there is usually not as intense as those grown farther north, but they often have good fruit and a silky finish.
The Grayson Cellars is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot. It is a good deep red color with cherry and cassis in the nose, with the taste of cherries and blackberries, and mild toasty tannins in the finish. Beverage Dynamics scored the 2005 vintage a 90. The Wine Advocate rated the 2004 vintage a 'Best Buy,' and in my opinion the 2005 is of the same quality.
Throw some steaks or chops on the grill and enjoy them with this excellent value wine.
