Norm's Tasting Notes: 2006 Jacob's Creek Reserve Chardonnay

Published Jun 6, 2008

Last week we talked about what great value there was to be found in Australian wines these days, especially the 2005 Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz. This week we are going to the flip side and give you some information about the 2006 Jacob's Creek Reserve Chardonnay. The Wine Spectator liked this wine well enough to give it an 87 score, with the following description: "Light and crisp, with a lime peel edge to the pear flavors, finishing with a pleasant balance."

I have enjoyed this wine for several vintages over the last few years and have found the Jacob's Creek Reserve line of wines to always be an excellent value. The Chardonnay is clean and crisp with good complexity without being over-powering. This is a very good choice to pair with grilled chicken salad, or it would also be perfect for seafood pasta salad on one of these hot summer evenings! However, as suggested with the Shiraz, for a real treat try this with Havarti cheese, and this time, some white grapes.

Great article. Never thought of Australia as a place to find fine wines. Thanks
