For those of you who were too faint of heart to grill out during the cold months, the cookout season is officially here! Of course many of you know that I grill out year round, unless the temperature is less than thirty degrees. However, for those of you who have not fired up the grill in a while, I have a great Cabernet Sauvignon for you to pair with your New York Strip, Porterhouse or Fillet Mignon.

The 2003 Rodney Strong Alexander's Crown Cabernet Sauvignon is perfect for that thick steak hot off the grill. The grapes are grown on Alexander's Crown which is a small knoll in the Alexander Valley of Sonoma County, California. The increased altitude provides a somewhat cooler temperature than what is found in the valley itself, and we know that Cabernet Sauvignon grapes flourish where the nights are a little cooler.

This is a big rich tasting Cabernet with a dark ruby color and flavors of black cherry, dark berry and a hint of cassis. It has a smooth toasty finish imparted by its nineteen-and-a-half months in French oak. We enjoyed this one with a medium rare, two inch thick Fillet Mignon, and I was in heaven!
