Roy Coleman Dedication at Dawson County Library TODAY

Published Apr 3, 2008

The Dawson County Board of Commissioners has designated Thursday, April 3, 2008, as Roy Coleman Day in Dawson County in recognition of all that Roy has done for Dawson County over the last 25 years that he has lived here.

A ceremony is planned at 4:00 PM at the Dawson County Library for that day, at which time a room in the library will be named after Roy.  This ceremony is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend to celebrate this significant recognition for a very deserving Roy Coleman. Note that this day is also the 54th wedding anniversary of Roy and Wilma.

Roy served on both the Dawson County Library Board and the Chestatee Regional Library Board for six years.  A native of Maine, Roy lived in Massachusetts for several years before coming to Georgia.  Roy has five children and five grandchildren, and he and his wife Wilma are very active with the Friends of the Dawson County Library.

Roy was one of six founders of the Dawson County Homeowner’s Association and is active in many  community organizations, including Kiwanis and AARP.  He is a member of the Board of Equalization, and has worn a number of hats for the library, serving on the planning and building committees, Friends of the Library, and Boards of Trustees.

Roy says, “A good library is important to a community in many ways, presenting programs for preschool-age children to seniors.  It conveys a good image to prospective companies seeking to locate here.”
