The Dawson County Arts Council knows how to throw a party. On May 2 and 3, the Council will hold its annual Spring Fling in downtown Dawsonville and the Dawsonville Middle School.

A juried art show, quilt exhibit, Mountain Art Bike Ride and Thunder Road 5 & 10K Road Race, musical entertainment and performances -- including the 40-member strong Chorale and the Sawnee Community Band from Cumming -- doggie fashion show and "Cruise In" car show, are all part of the festival fun. Event times are 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. both days.  The festival is free and so is the parking. (Visit www.dawsonarts.org/festival.htm to see all the events.)

For those who want to attend the festival and make a weekend of it in Dawsonville, spring is the perfect time to enjoy nature by hiking, biking, fishing or taking out canoes or kayaks and paddling down the river amidst the flora-lined riverbanks.
