The Dawson County Humane Society's new shelter director, Kay Harris, started in her new position on Monday, February 18 and was selected after carefully interviewing five well-qualified candidates for the position.
"Kay is energized to put all the details together to get the shelter open, but we are not open yet. We anticipate opening the shelter within a month, but many things have yet to be done before we are ready for business. Hiring Kay will allow us to speed up this preparation process," explained Doc Mills, spokesperson for the Human Society.
"Some of you may know Kay from her family business in the square of downtown old Dawsonville, the Paper Moon antique shop," continued Mills.
To offer help to the County's new shelter, all are welcome to call (706) 265-9160. Stay tuned for more details about the shelter's pending opening.

Congrats to Kay!! You are setting the precedent for how the first Dawson County Animal Shelter, (NO kill, in fact!) will be run. A huge responsibility but a task you are up for no less. My sincere congratulations and I look forward to meeting you sometime...
They could not have selected anyone better for the job!
