Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and Historical Society is inviting all paratroopers who trained at Camp Toccoa and Currahee Mountain to come to the 2007 Currahee Military Weekend, October 4-7, 2007.
They hope that the paratroopers who trained at Camp Toccoa and Currahee Mountain will visit Toccoa, reminisce about their training experiences and visit with their buddies who shared this very significant time in their lives. In addition, they extend an invitation to families, friends, re-enactors and admirers to join these very special men for this memorable occasion.
The Currahee Military Museum will be open for your enjoyment with an incredible collection of World War II and other military memorabilia. We have a number of activities planned for the weekend: opportunities to visit Camp Toccoa and Currahee Mountain, (the birthplace of The Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan & The Dirty Dozen), a World War II Re-enactment, Currahee Challenge Road Race (3 miles up & 3 miles down), World War II displays & memorabilia, vintage vehicles and planes, book signings, USO Mobile Canteen, “Cinema On Sage” (an outdoor cinema) featuring “The Dirty Dozen”, a musical called “War Bonds: Songs & Letters from WWII” and lots of other fun and educational events.
For registration information, contact the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce at 706-886-2132, toccoaga@alltel.net or www.toccoagachamber.com.

Just uploaded a new illustration. (I know it took a while...I’m retired!)
Great event, and I had the great fortune to attend with friend (Sgt) Don Burgett and to meet many past and currently serving soldiers. Of course, tagging along with author, historian and paratrooper Don Burgett got me a front row seat with the commanders pictured here.
As always, the Stephens Historical Society had the red carpet out, and each years event just gets bigger and better. Toccoa, Georgia, home of the Currahees, has transformed this event into a “must attend” ceremony, and is a perfect way for all citizens to meet, and speak, with some of our nations finest military men and woman.
