Dawson County's 'Bring One for the Chipper' Event Deemed a Success

Published Jan 10, 2008

On Saturday, January 5, Keep Dawson County Beautiful hosted the fifth annual Bring One for the Chipper event. More than 350 Christmas trees were collected and recycled from Dawson residents choosing to “go green” this year.

Volunteers from Dawson County Boy Scouts, Dawson County 4H and Keep Dawson County Beautiful worked the event while Sawnee EMC provided the chipping. Some people brought single trees while others had loaded pickups and trailers. Those donating a tree received a dogwood seedling.

Last year more than 240,000 Christmas trees were collected and recycled in Georgia for use in playgrounds, wildlife habitation and other public beautification. “It’s great that everyone has given these trees a second chance to be useful,” said Environmental Program Coordinator Cathy Brooks. “We all have to realize that every contribution we make as individuals—no matter how big or how small—can have a significant impact overall.”

2008 Dawson County Chipper trees will be used as mulch in our community parks for landscape beautification projects.

Thank you, Dawson County citizens and volunteers, for your enthusiasm for this worthwhile endeavor.

Keep Dawson County Beautiful encourages citizens to take greater responsibility for the beautification of Dawson County. For more information, please call Cathy Brooks at 706-344-3501 x 255 or email cbrooks@dawsoncounty.org.
