Congratulations to the Dawson County Women's Club

Published Apr 22, 2008

The Dawson County Woman's Club attended their state convention with hundreds of women this past weekend. Our two year "Grow Memories" beautification project at Rock Creek Park was in competition with 10 other clubs and their terrific beautification projects. The winners were narrowed down to Dunwoody, Stone Mountain and us. There was much yelling and screaming when little Dawsonville beat such wealthy and strong clubs!

I want to thank the individuals and businesses who helped support us with the 100 trees, 50 benches, 5 swinging benches, the $10,000 playground train, picnic tables and the bird and butterfly garden. It has been a wonderful community activity and the plaques are such a beautiful reflection of the people and businesses in our county.

The end of June, DCWC will be attending the national convention in Chicago and we will be in contention for some monetary prizes. If we are one of the finalists, we hope to purchase some handicap accessible picnic tables for Rock Creek Park.

Our "Grow Memories" project has become an example of pulling together in our community to improve the quality of life in Dawsonville. Rock Creek Park will become more beautiful as the trees grow. Our example is being continued at the Memorial Park, River Park and we hope future Dawson County Parks. If you wish to purchase trees, benches, bench swings, or picnic tables for the parks call the Dawson County Parks and Rec. and speak to Rhonda. The plaques included in the price allows room for touching sayings and business or individual names. Go take a look if you haven't read them yet!

Thanks again for your support of the Dawson County Woman's Club and know that the money we raise in fundraisers, goes right back into our county to provide a better quality of life for all.
