The Dawson Community Chorale, sponsored by The Dawson County Arts Council, continues its 10th year anniversary with their spring concert titled “America My Home”. The concert will be performed May 3, 2008, 7:30 PM at the Riverview Middle School in Dawsonville on Hwy. 9 So. The highlight of the concert will be Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass. The Gospel Mass was composed in 1978, and is Mr. Ray’s interpretation of two thousand years of liturgical tradition with the more contemporary music of the African-American Church. Additional numbers to be performed by the chorale are “Swingin”, “America My Home”, and “Georgia”.
The Dawson Community Chorale (DCC) consists of 40 dedicated singers from the community, and is under the direction of Dr. Joe Chapman, Coordinator of Music at North Georgia College & State University. Dr. Chapman has toured the United States and eight foreign countries as conductor, accompanist and soloist. This anniversary year marks the return of Dr. Chapman, who had previously directed the chorale from December 1999 through May 2002. The chorale will be accompanied by Kathy Duren. , Dr. Chapman has arranged for a small orchestra to provide additional accompaniment.
Tickets are $10 General Admission, $8 for Dawson County Arts Council members and students, and children 10 and under are free. Tickets are available from any DCC member, or by calling The Bowen Center for The Arts at 706, 216-ARTS, and also are available at the door the evening of concerts.
The DCC has been working very hard in preparation for this event, and is excited about performing “America My Home” in conjunction with The DCAC’s annual “Art in the Garden” celebration. We hope that you will join The DCC for a fun evening of singing at home in Dawson County.
