Music, food and fireworks will be rocking at Georgia’s largest outdoor event, held 300 feet below ground in a quarry overlooking a small lake.
The fourth annual Concert in the Quarry will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the working Martin Marietta Forsyth Quarry in Suwanee (Forsyth County). Headline acts include Shaw-Blades, featuring Tommy Shaw of STYX and Jack Blades of Night Ranger, and Bo Bice, of “American Idol” fame, in a fundraising event that will benefit the South Forsyth High School Band (SFHS) Program and the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes.
Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades, who were also in the group Damn Yankees, will perform acoustical guitar versions of their respective works and other songs that influenced their successful careers. Bo Bice will perform his unique set of southern rock backed by his full band. Opening the evening will be a special performance from the award-winning SFHS’s Wind Ensemble.
The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. with Atlanta radio icons, Scott Slade of WSB-750 AM and Kaedy Kiely of 97.1 FM The River, serving as masters of ceremony. The Concert in the Quarry is hosted this year by Martin Marietta Materials and presented by Northside Hospital-Forsyth.
The location of the quarry is at 3561 Peachtree Parkway, in Suwanee, GA 30024. The night will end with a spectacular fireworks show.
“We are very excited to have such a great variety of popular musicians perform for the evening,” said Glenn Kruse. “If you like music from the 70s through today, concert-goers will not be disappointed,” added Mike Leathers. Bo Bice is an alumnus of the hit show “American Idol” and is carving out his own unique place in the southern rock scene. Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades collectively have sold over 55 million albums with their bands STYX, Night Ranger and Damn Yankees and continue to win rave reviews in their Shaw-Blades performances with fellow guitar player Will Evankovich. “This is easily our best collection of talent and we are already selling tickets outside the area to fans of the two groups,” stated Cathi Kruse.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for students (18 and under with valid ID) for general admission seating.
