Lakeview Center is proud to present country recording artist Kurt Thomas in concert Saturday, September 18, 2010.

Currently touring in Georgia, Kurt will perform at Lakeview Center with all ticket proceeds to benefit the Dawson County Senior Center elevator fund.

Originally from Dahlonega, Georgia, Thomas has opened across the nation for some of the biggest names in country music including Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Gary Alan and Sugarland.

Following his 1994 graduation from Lumpkin County High School Kurt bought his first guitar for $80 from his friend Zac Brown.  He and Brown started a band and played locally. 

Later Kurt formed his own band, Kurt Thomas and the Small Town Band.  The small town way of life is a recurring theme in many of Kurt’s songs.

Thomas has since released three CDs:  Kurt Thomas and the Small Town Band, followed by the solo CDs Enjoy the Ride and Turn Up the Radio.

Kurt was the winner of Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star contest in 2008 and third season winner of CMT’s Music City Madness earning him a mentorship with Grammy-award winning singer Randy Travis.

On Saturday, September 18 Thomas returns to his north Georgia roots to assist Dawson County seniors.

“Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Dawson County Senior Center and aid in the design and installation of a much-needed elevator at the center,” said Dawson County Government and Community Affairs Director Cathy Brooks.  This is the fourth in a series of events to bring an elevator to the center.

“We are so appreciative to both Kurt and to Lakeview Center for making this event a reality,” said Brooks.  “There are many occasions in which our seniors are unable to participate in certain activities simply because they are required to climb stairs or walk around the outside of the building.  This fundraiser means so much to the center.”

Pre-sale tickets are $20 for this limited seating event and may be purchased through Lakeview Center by calling 706-216-1022. Credit cards are accepted for pre-event sales through Lakeview only. Cash sales will be accepted for tickets at the Dawson County Senior Center and Lakeview Center prior to day of show. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets early.

Tickets are $25 at the door.  Dance floor and cash bar will be open.  Doors open at 7pm.  Concert begins at 8pm.

Lakeview Center is located at 2057 Dawson Forest Rd. East, Dawsonville, GA  30534. Directions: GA 400 north to Dawson Forest Rd. Left on Dawson Forest Rd. at light.  Event center is 2 ½ miles on right.
