Dawson County Republican Party Chairman Clint Smith comments on the recently concluded Republican National Convention:

“The Republican Party is united behind the John McCain/Sarah Palin ticket.  It’s a winner,” Smith said.  “Senator John McCain is a true American hero.  He suffered for five and one half years in a prison camp.  He served our country courageously in the Navy.  As a civilian, he has served for 26 years in the U.S. Congress.  He is a reformer.  Senator McCain will lower taxes and cut out waste and abuse in the federal budget.  Governor Palin shares the same goals.  She is qualified to serve as Vice-President and she has the perspective of a wife and mother with solid middle-class values.”

The next meeting of the Dawson County Republican Party will held on Tuesday, September 16th at 7:00 p.m. at the Bowen Arts Center in Dawsonville (334 Hwy 9 North).  The speaker will be White County Republican Party Chairman Joshua Turner.  He served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Minnesota.

Clint Smith attended a fundraising event for Senator McCain in Atlanta on August 18.  Smith and his mother, Evelyn Smith, had an opportunity to speak with Senator McCain at the event.   Clint Smith, a former legislator, was the first elected official in Georgia to endorse Senator McCain in the 2000 presidential election.

The event raised almost $2 million for Senator McCain’s campaign.

“I have always supported Senator McCain.  He has a strong background in foreign affairs and practical experience in the military,” Smith said.

Clint Smith serves as the McCain campaign’s Dawson County Chairman.  He is also working to rally veterans in north Georgia to support John McCain.

Evelyn Smith is the Dawson County Chair for Women for McCain (ewilessmith@windstream.net).
