The Holly Children's Theatre presents SEUSSICAL Live On Stage, March 13-16

Live On Stage, March 13-16 CatHatcombining 13 of Dr. Seuss' works in a fanstastical, magical, musical extravaganza!  Notable composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life in Seussical all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and the Whos of Whoville!  These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by JoJo, a young boy and "thinker of strange and wonderful thinks"! As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss's subtle themes are; making this musical one that appeals to all ages. The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk!


Shows run at 7 p.m. March 13-16 and 2 p.m. March 15-16. Seussical director, Nathan Gerrells, recently directed the Holly Children's Theatre Competition Team that won first place in Disneyworld at The National Performing Arts Festival and additionally took the Competition Team to The National Junior Theatre Festival by Disney and MTI Kangarooslast year (where the group won 3rd place nationally and Gerrells won a "best director"award).  Gerrells also directed High School Musical, Disney's The Jungle Book Kids, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and more at Holly, as well as instructs for many Summer Camps. After also working with Schoolhouse Rock, Live, Jr. this past Fall, Gerrells is thrilled to yet again be involved in such a fun show that educates at the same time.  Gerrells comments "This show is something every person will love. I really think that.  It appeals to the very young and also to adults.  Every single song is great and the spectacle and lessons of Seuss are so well interwoven in this production-It's all about the trips your imagination can take you on-I'm excited for the community to see it!"

Gerrells is also a fifth-grade teacher at Long BranchElementary School and will also get the chance toHorton have his school see Seussical for two daytime performances.  So far, the Holly has booked 5,000 students for school day performances of this show (either going to the schools to perform or with students coming to the theater for field trips). 

 The school day cast is comprised of Judson Wright (The Cat in the Hat), Michael Arens (Horton the Elephant, also the music director), Colleen Green (The Sour Kangaroo), Kate McElliott (Mayzie la Bird, also the producer and Education Director for the Holly), Dana Kelson (Gertrude McFuzz), Emilee Arnold (Wickersham Brother and Mrs. Mayor), Christian Mims (Wickersham Brother and Mr. Mayor), and Taylor Priday and Austin Hoover (alternating Thingsdates playing JoJo).  Thirteen year old Jacob Allen will take over at The Cat in the Hat for the main stage showings and Jonathan Krohn and Hanna Slaughter will take over and Mr. and Mrs. Mayor.  The rest of the school day cast will continue on their roles for the show on the main stage, and added to that will be the 22 youth playing supporting roles and an ensemble of Whos and Jungle Animals.  The show is choreographed by 16 year old Carly Berg, who recently choreographed Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.! at the Holly and for the Holly Children's Theatre Competition Team (Carly also won a "Best Stage Presence" medal and "Top Female Vocal Soloist" trophy at the Disney competition).

This is a show not to be missed!  So let your toes tap,Mayzie your fingers snap, and your imagination run wild, for "If you open your mind, Oh, the Thinks you will find  Lining up to get loose! Oh, the Thinks you can think!  Oh, the Thinks you can think  When you think about Seuss!!"
